About Us

James Holloway

MBACP, INLPTA, ABH
Counsellor, Psychotherapist, and Co-founder

James has over 10 years of experience in personal counselling and psychotherapy. Starting in student counselling, he moved into staff counselling for the NHS and now runs two private practices, working with a range of clients.

Before beginning his career as a counsellor and psychotherapist, James ran a successful landscaping & platform hire business in Torbay for 10 years until 2007. But because of job-related stress, he fell into depression leading to a breakdown and ongoing mental health issues.

Following this, James retrained and qualified as a Counsellor, which included a placement as a College Counsellor and Psychotherapist before working as a part-time Counsellor in the NHS.

This experience opened the door to James opening two practices, both offering private psychotherapy and counselling sessions across the South West, with clients from various backgrounds. He’s also the co-founder and Managing Director of Clearfocus Training, delivering comprehensive mental health and communications training and support to help businesses and their staff with a range of work-based courses.

Being diagnosed with dyslexia early, James struggled at school and didn’t receive the support he needed. But despite the frustration and challenges this brought, it didn’t stop James from learning and growing throughout his career. His training as a counsellor has also helped a lot, and he now uses his skills to help others struggling with dyslexia or other learning issues.

“Having first-hand experience of depression, mental health issues, and dyslexia, I’m fully aware of how debilitating and challenging it can be. The counselling I received helped me to understand how I could deal with my life while helping me change my mindset and focus on all the positives. Now, as a counsellor myself, I really enjoy the variety it brings me, as well as seeing the positive change and growth in clients during our sessions together.”

Priscilla Mgute

MBACP, BSc Mental Health Nursing
Counsellor, Co-Founder, Psychotherapist

With a background in mental health voluntary work and education, Priscilla qualified with a BSc degree in Mental Health Nursing in 2017. She worked for the NHS as a mental health nurse alongside her private counselling work.

After arriving in the UK from Johannesburg in 2003, Priscilla moved to Plymouth and enrolled in full-time education to study an Access to Nursing course. This led to working in junior NHS roles until  2012 before getting direct experience and completing her Access course in 2014.

Moving forward, Priscilla studied mental health nursing at a degree level at the University of the West of England (UWE) until 2017, gaining a real knowledge and understanding of multiple mental health issues and leaving with full BSc honours.

This accomplished education and her work in both in-patient and community environments gave Priscilla a crucial grounding in different mental health issues, diagnoses, and care. Her sessions often draw on her personal stories and real-life experiences to provide a natural empathy to her clients.

She also joins James as co-founder and Managing Director of Clearfocus Training, helping to deliver a range of mental health and communications training and support for businesses and their staff with tailored work-based courses.

“After suffering anxiety and other mental health issues when I was younger, I know what it’s like to feel inferior, judged, and misunderstood. It was only after seeking help and support from psychotherapy and my family that I started on the journey to recovery. But my experiences and the skills I’ve learnt working in the NHS and as a psychotherapist drive me to help and support clients in their issues.”
