Bereavement Counselling in Exeter and Torquay

Helping the healing process

What is bereavement?

At some point in our lives, we’ll all experience the distress of losing a loved one, whether they’re a good friend or a family member.

Bereavement is the experience we go through following the death of someone close and we recognise it as the process of grieving. Though filled with all sorts of emotions, grieving serves an important purpose, helping us to deal with and accept our loss.

The effect of death can have a huge impact on our lives and the grief that follows can be hard to come to terms with, leaving us feeling physically drained and emotionally exhausted. The bereavement process can be different for everyone and with no specific timeframe set for how long we grieve for, bereavement counselling will help the healing process, but only when you feel ready to take it.

Bereavement counselling

Bereavement counselling will help you work through the stages of grieving and help to accept your loss. It will also help to understand that any feelings of sadness, guilt, pain, or anger are perfectly normal while helping you accept that the grieving process is a natural and necessary part of life.

But getting through grief on your own can be hard. With confidential Bereavement counselling, you have a space where you can talk about the person you’ve lost and the emotions you’re feeling without judgement. Bereavement counselling can be a therapeutic, cathartic, and healing process.

In your sessions with your bereavement counsellor, you’ll be able to come to terms with your loss by:

  • Understanding the emotions and feelings you’re experiencing
  • Adjusting to a life without your loved one without forgetting them
  • Helping you to reconnect with those close to you
  • Acknowledging the effect of your loss while feeling comfortable in living your life

Bereavement can be an unpredictable process to navigate, making you feel completely overwhelmed one day while feeling more manageable the next. But with effective bereavement counselling, your journey will be made easier. As bereavement counsellors, our experience in loss and how to cope with it will help you understand your feelings and make a healthy transition to a positive future.
