Mindfulness-based Therapy in Exeter and Torquay

Focus and connect

What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a state of mind that helps you be more aware of your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and sensations. The strategies and techniques used in mindfulness-based therapy help free your mind from unhelpful or harmful ways of thinking or feeling, allowing you to focus and connect to help you manage them.

As a result, your enhanced awareness helps to gain clarity and understanding of what’s making you feel stressed, upset, or hurt, allowing you to respond calmly and regain balance and perspective on your issues.

For many, practising mindfulness helps to manage and improve their mental health and well-being and physical health. But it’s not necessarily a quick fix and can take commitment and practice, so it may not be suitable for everyone.

How mindfulness can help you

Alongside mindfulness-based therapy helping to reduce and manage the symptoms of more common mental health issues, including anxiety, stress, and depression, there are other benefits to mindfulness and how it can help you, including:

  • Understanding your emotions

  • Being better equipped to deal with negative thoughts or feelings

  • Feeling less overwhelm day to day

  • Becoming more focused and calm

  • Improving your concentration

  • Reacting and responding better to stress or difficult situations

  • Learning to be kinder and more accepting of ourselves and others

Mindfulness-based therapy

Anyone can practise mindfulness to feel calm and restore energy and balance in daily life. But if you’re new to the techniques and want to explore how mindfulness can help you, having a series of more structured therapy sessions with Devon Therapy Services could benefit you.

Using mindfulness-based therapy techniques found in Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (CBT and DBT), our experienced counsellors can help you find ways to practise the skill of paying attention to your mind and body.

By becoming familiar with patterns or habits, you’ll be able to spot any triggers or warning signs to manage or overcome common issues such as insomnia, tiredness, chronic pain, or more profound mental health issues.
