Online and Telephone Therapy

Sessions wherever you are

Telephone, Skype, Zoom, and Teams Counselling

Over the years, counselling and psychotherapy have traditionally taken place as face-to-face sessions in a safe, comfortable, and confidential space between client and counsellor. But people are busier nowadays. You might work long hours in different parts of the country or the world, making it more difficult to find the time or availability to block out time to visit a counsellor.

Your online and telephone therapy sessions

These and many other reasons are why Devon Therapy Services offers you full online video and telephone counselling and psychotherapy sessions. Available to everyone, video or phone therapy can be just as effective as having face-to-face sessions to get the help and support you need – just in the comfort of your own home, hotel room, or wherever you are.

As long as you have access to a phone line, internet, or mobile data, your sessions can take place wherever you are in the world at a pre-agreed date and time.

Teams, Skype, and Zoom counselling

Each counselling session will usually last for the same amount of time as an in-person session at around 50 minutes. They’ll take place across safe and fully encrypted platforms for complete confidentiality, with you and I connecting from our respective locations. Your choice of platform can be either Teams, Skype, or Zoom.

These platforms are the closest to in-person therapy, as we’ll both be able to see each other’s facial expressions and body language. Alternatively, we can connect on either of these platforms with the video turned off, making it more like a phone call. While we’ll be unable to see each other’s facial expressions, it does help to focus on the voice and what is being said without distractions.

Telephone and WhatsApp counselling

Telephone counselling is available if you prefer, either through a landline or mobile phone. This can be useful if you don’t have a reliable internet connection or find visual communication difficult.

As another alternative, our sessions can be held over the fully encrypted WhatsApp instant messaging app. WhatsApp can also be used to make voice calls and/or video calls if you prefer this to Teams, Skype, or Zoom platforms.

Many clients are new to video, messaging apps, or phone call counselling sessions and can be unsure what to expect, so it can be a daunting prospect. However, it’s a credible, convenient, and easy way to receive therapy. After their first session, many feel that it really works for them and are comfortable using any platform.

Confidential counselling and psychotherapy

Whichever platform you prefer, the choice is yours. Every session is strictly confidential, whether via phone, app, or video platform. In each session, our counsellor will always be alone and in a private room, and we also remind you that all therapy must be carried out in a safe and confidential place on your side as well.
Things to remember
Whether you’re new to online video or telephone therapy or not, there are a few practicalities to think about beforehand that can make each session easier and more relaxed.

  • Ensure you have a signal, a phone/internet connection, or sufficient mobile data to have your session in full
  • Download and install your chosen platform or app in advance if you haven’t already got it
  • Check the room you’re in is confidential and that you won’t be interrupted during your session
  • Make sure you’re relaxed and comfortable before and during your session
  • Turn off any other devices you won’t be using during your session to avoid interruptions or distractions
