Counselling and Psychotherapy in Exeter and Torquay

Before you start your counselling or psychotherapy sessions with us, you may well have a few questions about the details. We’ve provided some useful information on our sessions and fees here for you, but feel free to contact us if you have any other questions or concerns.

Making your appointment

Before making your session appointment(s), please contact us to arrange an initial session so we can meet and have a chat about the counselling or psychotherapy you’d like to explore. We can also talk about what has brought you to counselling, what you’d like to get out of your sessions, and whether you’ve had any counselling or psychotherapy sessions before.

It’s at this stage that we can assess what counselling or psychotherapy might be best for you and refer you to the counsellor who will best suit your needs, both personally and professionally.

Your session times

Sessions with your counsellor will last for around 50 minutes. We need to stick to session deadlines so we can allocate the right time to every client. So if you arrive at your session late, it’s likely we’ll still need to end the session at the usual time.

Having set session times is important. While it might feel frustrating to cut your session short, especially if we’re exploring a particularly traumatic or painful topic, ending a session early will give your unconscious mind the ability to link the process to feelings of safety and consistency.

Your session frequency

Our counsellors recommend weekly or fortnightly sessions, depending on what’s most appropriate for you, taking place at a fixed time wherever possible. Sometimes they might recommend more or fewer sessions, but this will be determined on an individual basis.

Your session fees

Every session fee is payable by cheque, cash, or bank transfer at or before each session. Devon Therapy Services offers fixed counselling and psychotherapy fees as follows:

Individual sessions:
£80 per 50-minute session with James
£70 per 50-minute session with Priscilla
Online Skype/Teams/Zoom sessions:
£80 per 50-minute session with James
£70 per 50-minute session with Priscilla
Telephone sessions:

Sometimes it’s necessary for you to cancel a session for different reasons. Any session cancellations can be discussed during our initial appointment as part of your Devon Therapy Services contract.
